Kingsland Festival 2024 | Aftermovie | ADE Chat
In 2024, I went to Kingsland, which is a festival in the Netherlands held on April 27th every year in celebration of King’s Day – a national holiday in the Netherlands.I went to see Martin Garrix perform live and to see people from the ADE Chat – an Instagram based community who are fans of Martin Garrix, and who meet for shows and events all around the world. After returning to the UK, I decided to compile people’s videos to make a short aftermovie of the show.
Project Breakdown
Once again, I wanted to make an aftermovie like I did for Amsterdam Dance Event 2023. However, this show wasn’t as big as ADE was, and there wasn’t as much footage to work with. So I decided to make a much shorter aftermovie that would only focus on the show. Additionally, I decided to make the video portrait instead of landscape, in order to fit Instagram Reels’ recommended size.
I decided to use two songs for this aftermovie (Carry You & High On Life) and I used as many videos as I could get. Even after this, I still didn’t have much to work with. I wanted the first song to show as much euphoria as possible and as many different perspectives as possible, which was a bit of a challenge but I managed it.
I wanted the second song to be very emotional, and spread happiness to the people watching the video. Something iconic happened during the show that I decided to include in this segment – Martin Garrix being gifted a hoodie that was both designed and printed by the ADE Chat. Several members of the chat have videos of Martin coming to the front of the stage to collect the hoodie and put it on. This was all during High On Life, which is partly why I wanted to include this song. I began to sync the several videos I had of this moment and High On Life in general. When I got to the drop, I decided to use other videos from different parts of the show. This included a couple of clips of Martin’s final song of the show, in order to showcase the final part of the aftermovie. I ended this with footage of fireworks that Martin set off outside his apartment that night. All this resulted in an aftermovie that I was extremely pleased with.
